PEOPLE have reacted with fury after a promised and much-needed dental surgery will not be going ahead. 

The surgery, at Island Site, off Beggarwood Lane, was meant to be built as part of a plan to build houses, a pub and a care home by developer Grainger. 

However, the site was sold on in April 2021 and new owner Select Enterprise has now confirmed to the Gazette that it will no longer be progressing with the surgery plans and that it hopes to build a children’s nursery instead. 

The news has been met with anger from local councillors, who say that residents are in dire need of a greater dental provision.
