TICKETS which sold out in record-breaking time to see comedian Ricky Gervais at The Anvil have appeared on a resale site for more than £550, despite this being against the theatre’s rules.

Tickets to see the After Life and Office star's tour Amageddon: Work in Progress on October 4 and 5 in Basingstoke sold out in less than 10 minutes, which The Anvil declared was its fastest-selling performance of all time.

The Anvil warned customers that reselling the £29 tickets for this event is banned, and that the show is for “fans only”, with the special conditions in place to “ensure that tickets are purchased for personal use only and not resold for profit”.

It placed a strict limit of six tickets per person, per household, and warned that any tickets purchased, resold or offered for resale in breach of the conditions may be cancelled and invalidated.

Despite this, tickets have appeared on ticket selling sites with prices up to £566 per ticket.

Basingstoke Gazette:

The Gazette found a variety of tickets to see Gervais for sale on Viagogo costing between £195 and £566 for the Basingstoke show.

Gervais warned his followers on Twitter not to buy from secondary websites or touts, saying: “If the gig is sold out and you can afford it, only buy official Platinum tickets. They are to help price out touts from buying the best seats, and the money goes to charity and not scum. #Armageddon.”

The Anvil said it is “working hard to stop" the resell of tickets for this event and warned that if it finds tickets on resale sites which have been purchased through the box office, it will cancel them and people with those tickets will not be admitted on the night.

It also warned that some ticket listings on other sites are fictitious and have seat numbers or areas which do not exist in the auditorium.

However, for anyone left disappointed last week who missed out on buying tickets to see the show, a waiting list has been set up for ticket returns.

To join the list for the sold out event email box.office@anvilarts.org.uk providing your name, address, contact number and number of tickets required.

A spokesperson for Anvil Arts said: "Tickets sold out quickly which is fantastic, and we are delighted that people are as excited as we are.

"Anvil Arts is always happy to hold customers' details on a waiting list – and are doing so on this occasion, but there is already a huge waiting list with an unprecedented number of people on it.

"Customers are, though, still welcome to email the Anvil Arts box office if they wish."
