PEOPLE in Tadley have come together to create a 15-metre long and three and half metre wide poppy cascade to be hung at a church in the town. 

Since May people have been contributing to making 4,000 handmade poppies to be joined onto a large netting that will be hung on Saturday, October 15, at 11am at St Mary's Church for remembrance and to mark Tadley's Art Festival. 

The idea came to life after resident Nicola Cromley woke up one morning and saw a similar idea on a craft group Facebook in Middleton Cheney and thought 'why don't we do this for rememberance in Tadley'.

After speaking to some people who also supported the idea within the community, Nicola started a Facebook group chat where it was then arranged with the vicor at St Mary's Church. An engineering team also worked out the logistics behind the large poppy netting being held up. 

Nicola said: "I am just so grateful that everyone came together to make this project come to life, it was been a real community project and just really nice to be a part of."

The poppies crocheted by people were dropped to Damaris Crafts along Bishopswood Road where Nicola has taken them to be tied to the netting with the help of various of other women throughout several of weeks for two to three hours at a time. 

Nicola added that she couldn't of completed this project without Julie Grant, the owner of J Brant Reclamation, who spent her own money on buying all the netting for the poppy cascade.
