In an all-Basingstoke League first round tie of the Hampshire FA Sunday Trophy, Tadley Town drew 1-1 with Bramley United, with Lors Nicholas opening the scoring for the visitors and Ben Stokes tapping in Bailey Goodenough’s cross to level for Tadley before half-time.
No score in the second half took the sides to penalties with Rhys Milton saving the sudden death penalty for Tadley at 6-5, writes Tony Spencer.
Division 4 side Brookvale United eliminated their Division 2 hosts Overton United by the narrow margin of 2-3 in their Hampshire Sunday Vase tie.
Confident Basingstoke Hammers travelled to CK Andover in the Andover Presidents Cup and raring to go. From the kick-off Hammers controlled possession, opening the scoring on 15 mins as Cameron George’s through ball sent Kieran Rodgers away to slot home, 0-1. But loss of concentration squandered the lead, CK Andover equalised 1-1. However, just four passes later, between Rodgers, Charlie and Dobson, who squared to George to fire home, 1-2.
This opened the floodgates, Dobson made it 1-3, George’s left foot 1-4, a Rodgers’ penalty into the bottom corner 1-5 and Rodgers again, whacked in from the edge of the box, 1-6 by half-time to Hammers. All five subs went on and skipper Kieron Farmer converted a penalty for 1-7, Corey Henderson’s 40-yard rocket was 1-8, Sonny Haynes’ solo effort 1-9, and Callum Silcox set up Haynes’ brace to end 1-10, with Reece Chapman MOTM.
After going 0-1 down at the break, New Park Rangers beat Hampshire Irons 6-3 in a blistering second half cup tie, Charlie Hart scored four and George Callahan a brace. Matthew Bonner, Jack Miller and sub Chris Arnold netted for Irons.
Republic of Chineham eased into the next round with 9-1 win over Broughton.
New Park Rangers Reserves remain top of Division 2 despite a 1-4 home defeat by White Ash Rovers. Trent Barrington, Billy Williams and a brace from sub Jake Williams cancelled out Bailey Roffey’s reply for Rangers.
Andy Parker and Daniel Willis scored for North Warnborough The Anchor, who hold onto second place on goal difference after a 2-4 defeat by Republic of Chineham Reserves.
Emeka Nwaubani and sub Leuan Atkinson gave Hartley Sunday a 0-2 half-time lead at AFC Aldermaston, and increased the lead to 0-3 thanks to Jamie Glanville on 50 mins. The hosts pulled one back to 1-3 on 71 mins but it was too little too late.
Sherborne St John top Division 3 after a 0-16 victory at Stratton Park Rangers. Bradley Elliott filled his boots with a double-hat-trick, Josh Ralf added his hat-trick, Niall Hannigan, Lewis Smart and Woody Tydeman with braces and Adam Luke a single.
Wellington maintained their 100 per cent with a 4-1 win over Soldiers Return, Warren Hill getting Soldiers’ consolation.
Basingstoke Casuals went down 1-4 to Hampshire Royals, who led 0-1 at half-time through sub Harry Cook’s strike on 40 mins. In the second half, sub Lyndon Tyson added one on the hour, sub Jamie Pearce on 77 mins and James Goldsmith ten mins from time.
Cranbourne Rangers lost 0-7 to Farnham Spitfires.
Newchester bounced back from their opening day defeat to win 4-7 away at The Oak FC. Jacob Burrows scored 4 goals, John Holden and Joe Stevenson added one apiece.
AFC Berg top Division 4 with their 3rd straight win, 5-2 at home to Ambient, with scorers Scott Elliott, Ashley Elward, Hayden Johnson, Mitchell Medford, sub Jesse Todd, Tyler Andrews and Thomas Coughlan. Berg started strong and scored after 7 mins after a through ball to Hayden Johnson, 1-0.
Ambient levelled 20 minutes later, 1-1. Ten mins before half-time Johnson and Scott Elliott were clear on goal, Elliott finished, 1-2 at half-time. Six mins into the second half Mitchell Medford’s free kick found the bottom left corner for 3-1. Ambient responded 10 mins after to close the gap 3-2. Sub Jesse Todd chipped the keeper for 4-2 and the final goal came by way of a long ball from Todd and Ashley Elward hitting the mark, Berg winning 5-1.
AFC Popley beat struggling AFC Ramsdell 15-0, with Thomas Bartlett and Taylor Stephenson racking up 4 goals each, 4, Aidan Rogers a brace, Jack Seaborne, Owen Wheeler, sub James Gault and sub Eboh Kenechukwu one each.
The match between Westside Athletic and Basingstoke Boars was abandoned at 0-3 after a serious injury to a Boars’ player and long delay getting treatment.
