Hartley Wintney were on the receiving end of a shock result when they were dumped out of the Hampshire Cup by Lymington Town.
The Linnets had lost all of their five league matches to date this season. But they turned up for the game and it was a night to forget for the Row. In addition to the cup exit they had a player sent off and one stretchered off, both in the first half.
Lymington showed early intent as they were able to get beyond the Hartley defence. They were rewarded on six minutes when Toby Neville brought down a Linnets forward just outside the penalty area, receiving a yellow card in the process. Owen Fee took the kick and his shot beat the wall and finished up in the corner of the net. (0-1)
Approaching half time the Linnets doubled their lead. A quick break led to a good opportunity for Callum Stratton and the striker made no mistake with a shot from the edge of the box. (0-2)
Lymington always looked likely to add to their lead from breakaways. On 79 minutes the impressive Dom Thelan drifted through the Hartley defence before firing a fine shot beyond Desbois. (0-3)
A thoroughly miserable night for the Row. However, they must quickly put the performance behind them as they face high flying Truro City at home on Saturday.
