September ended on an unsettled note with more wind and rain. But what can Hampshire and the Isle of Wight expect during the week ahead?
I have looked at meteorological computer models based on pressure system trajectory and after analysing and interpreting the likely outcomes, I am predicting a high risk of substantial rainfall or the next day or so.
And the reason behind this is a deep Atlantic depression and its associated weather fronts will be close to our shores.
Once this low pressure system clears away eastwards from the British Isles, we should see an anticyclone build over France.
This sets the meteorological wheels in motion for a much drier and quieter period of weather thereafter.
For our neck of the woods, this means plenty of decent weather with a variable cloud amounts and sunshine by day. However, I would not rule out the risk of one or two well-scattered showers forming. Mist and fog patches are possible at night particularly over high ground and in river valleys.
There is just a small chance of a touch of ground frost out in the sticks on the coldest nights.
On the plus side, daily maximum temperatures are likely to be around the seasonal average or perhaps slightly above as the forecast period progresses.
Looking further ahead to the second week of October, more settled weather is likely at first before it becomes unsettled once more.
