MORE than 100 schoolchildren from across Basingstoke and Winchester attended a countryside day.

On Thursday, September 22 the team at Farleigh Wallop Estate held the school countryside day for 160 pupils.

Children from Tadley, Cliddesden and Oliver’s Battery schools learned about aspects of the countryside and estate life with hands-on activities covering farm machinery, livestock, beekeeping, and forestry.

The day was organised in conjunction with Countryside Learning, a national charity that connects children, families, and teachers with the countryside.

Education officer for Countryside Learning Annabel Hodge said: "We are so grateful to the Farleigh Wallop Estate and Lord Lymington for hosting our educational visit. Working in partnership with the estate, we hope to inform and inspire the children to further their knowledge and understanding of the countryside while enjoying a fully 'hands-on' experience."

Lord and Lady Lymington feel passionately that local children should be given these opportunities to learn and protect the countryside, and hope to share the estate with more school groups in the coming years.
