A SECOND man has been arrested following a report that a woman in her 70s was seriously assaulted in Basingstoke.
Officers investigating the incident have arrested a 29-year-old man from Basingstoke on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.
He has been released under investigation while police enquiries are ongoing.
It comes after officers received a report that a woman in her 70s was hit over the head while walking her dog along Eastrop Lane, near Goat Lane.
The incident took place at around 10.15pm on Wednesday, October 12.
The woman was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, where she is being treated for a serious head injury.
Police had arrested a 25-year-old man from Basingstoke on Thursday, October 13, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

He has also been released on conditional bail while the enquiries remain ongoing.
Officers are still keen to hear from any witnesses who saw this incident take place.
