A NUMBER of cabinet ministers have announced their departures from Government as Rishi Sunak carries out a reshuffle.

Rishi Sunak is the country’s 57th Prime Minister. The MP for Richmond (Yorks) and former chancellor has risen to the top of British politics and will succeed Liz Truss.

Outgoing PM Ms Truss announced she would step down from the role on October 20 after just 45 days, making her the United Kingdom’s shortest-serving Prime Minister.

Mr Sunak was guaranteed the job when Penny Mordaunt pulled out of the leadership race on the afternoon of Monday, October 24.

In a speech to the nation, Mr Sunak warned the country faces “profound” economic challenges.

"I pledge that I will serve you with integrity and humility," he told the public.

Since the news, there has been a complete cabinet reshuffle with Hampshire MPs Kit Malthouse and Ranil Jayawardena leaving their current rules.

Andover MP Kit Malthouse, who was a deputy under Mr Johnson when he was London mayor, announced his departure as education secretary.

In a Twitter post, Mr Malthouse said: “As I leave the Department for Education, I do so with profound gratitude to officials, my private office team, and brilliant advisers, who all worked so hard.

“I hope my successor can harness their commitment to the most important mission in Whitehall: the future and welfare of our children.

He was not alone as MP for North East Hampshire Ranil Jayawardena followed in the same footsteps.

Ranil Jayawardena, who became the Defra Secretary at the beginning of September, has stepped down from the role after just 48 days.

Mr Jayawardena announced his resignation today (25 October) after becoming the UK's eighth Environment Secretary since 2010.

Posting his resignation letter on social media, Mr Jayawardena said he was "pleased to have laid the groundwork to 'free our farmers'".

"From food security and backing British farmers, to water scarcity and growing our rural economy, I am sure HM government will continue to deliver," he added.
