AN APPLICATION to build a 15-metre tall 5G mast in Winklebury has been submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

The application has been submitted by CK Hutchinson Networks and comes just two months after a number of proposals for phone masts by the company were rejected.

The prior applications were for two phone masts, one at Kempshott Junction and another off Woodbury Road in Hatch Warren, which were both rejected following significant backlash from residents who lived near the proposed locations.

If the application is approved, the proposed telecommunications mast will be constructed on Fort Hill.

The proposal has already begun to face opposition from nearby residents.

Chris Lillie of Tintagel Close said: “The siting and appearance of this proposed telecommunications installation is insensitive and is detrimental to the surrounding properties and to the people that use the green space.

“Due to the upcoming redevelopment of the Winklebury Centre area the nearby play area will be demolished, which means our children will have no green space close by to play and to exercise.”

Meanwhile, Kenilworth Road resident David Cotter said that the proposed mast would be “an eyesore”.

He added: “There appear to be many sites in the Winklebury area where this could be avoided, but the proposal seems to take no account for this.”
