THERE has been a delay to the opening of a new cake shop in Basingstoke because of ‘stock and equipment issues’.
As previously reported, Caker Street was due to launch its fourth shop in Church Street, at the Top of Town, in the first week of November.
However, the company said this has now been pushed back to November 15 because of issues sourcing enough stock and equipment.

A member of staff told the Gazette: “It should be active by November 15. I understand that they are waiting for more equipment to come in.
“The delay is because the main management is focusing on stock. They want to give it a good amount of time and energy to make sure it has the right stock.”
She added: “The entire essence of Caker Street is on novelty cakes. We don’t want to compromise on that. If we compromise on that the quality of the cakes is compromised.”
The spokesperson said that an experienced baker from the company’s head office in Southall was going to the new Basingstoke shop to train the new team of bakers ahead of the opening.

Caker Street was initially planning to open the Basingstoke branch in mid-April.
The business is described on its website as a “one stop cake shop for all your occasions”.
It launched in 2015 as an online cake shop before opening its first kiosk in Westfield Mall, London, in March.
It states that by the end of 2022 it will have 10 stores across the country, including the one in Basingstoke.
The business makes cakes for any occasion and also offers DIY cakes and cupcakes at its London outlet.
