Hampshire Irons took on unbeaten visitors Butlocks Heath from the City of Southampton in the Hampshire Sunday Trophy tie and found themselves a goal behind early in the second half, writes Tony Spencer.
Irons started strongly, creating lots of chances that the front line wasted. Looking secure at the back the Irons pushed for an opener but were unable to find the net.
Irons started the second half slow and allowed Butlocks control. The game opened up and Butlocks took the lead after their forward turned Jack Miller inside out and smarty finished, 0-1.
The irons equalised straight away from a hard low shot by Chris Morris from just inside the opposition area. The Irons pushed for the win and had a great chance one-on-one but Matt Bonners’ heavy touch saw the chance go begging and penalties ensued. Step in keeper Gavin Curry was hot and saved his first two pens, giving the Irons a healthy lead, leaving Miller, Morris, Nicholson and Bonner to score and win the shoot-out 4-2, their fifth win on the trot.
Basingstoke Saints lost 0-4 at home to Rushmoor Celtic from Division 2 of the Aldershot & Camberley League.
New Park Rangers withdrew and conceded the tie to Grange Athletic of the Bournemouth League.
White Ash Rovers travelled to Aldershot & Camberley side FC Potters in the Hampshire Sunday Vase and won convincingly 0-9. Jake Williams fired in four goals, Jake Gorman, Ryan Lupton, subs Lewis Jordan and Conor Waters chalked up singles. White Ash have won four games in a row.
Ambient drew 2-2 with Cross Keys Athletic, who were unbeaten in all competitions this season and head the top of Division 4 of the City of Portsmouth League, thanks to strikes from Kieron Alleyne and Scott Berry. Then Ambient went on to win the shoot-out 4-2, their winning run extended to four games.
Brookvale United beat Bournmouth side Muscliff Dynamos 3-1, an excellent result, the visitors having won seven of their first eight games and the only one they had lost had been on penalties.
Nathan Bennis, Josh Branch, Bobbi Frost, subs Keith Barley and Michal Borbely with a brace scored for Eastrop Eagles as they beat Kingfisher of the Gosport, Fareham & Solent League Division 3, 6-0.
Newchester drew 2-2 with Bournemouth side APR FC in normal time and won through to the next round 3-2 on penalties.
Farnham Spitfires squeezed through 3-2 against a strong Village Athletic of the City of Southampton Division 4, who arrived with an unbeaten record after seven games.
Basingstoke Casuals drew 1-1 with City of Southampton Division 5 side Halfway Inn, with Ali Nije scoring for Casuals, but they went down 4-3 on penalties to a side who had suffere only one reverse this season.
Despite goals from Harry Cook, Ben Gill and Lyndon Tyson, Hampshire Royals went down 3-6 to City of Portsmouth side Padnell Rovers.
Aldershot and Camberley League side Purple Cobras scored 10 goals without reply from Riverdene Rovers.
Although Westside Athletic lost 13-0 to Rushmere Reserves, who have won all seven of their games this season, it was a good game, with some minor issues on Westside’s side but both teams played well.
