BOTH Basingstoke Ladies 1s and Men's 1s suffered defeats last week while Ladies 2s secured a stunning victory.
Basingstoke Ladies 1s, sponsored by KJ Smith Solicitors, had a long journey to Exeter this week to play Isca and Uni of Exeter Ladies 2s.
The game didn’t start well with an unlucky deflection off a Basingstoke player from a penalty corner to open the scoring for Isca. Basingstoke strung some nice passes together in the second period to give Ellie Williams a sight at goal, however Isca’s keeper made some good saves which included a one-v-one with debutant Fenella Ruane.
At the break the score remained 1-0 to the home side.
In the second half Basingstoke’s defence put up a brave fight but Isca converted a penalty flick and another penalty corner routine to complete the scoring. Basingstoke battled to the end with Catriona Bausor and Fiona Parker both putting in sterling efforts.
Basingstoke Men’s 1s travelled away to play Marlow Men’s 1s this week. Marlow started well testing the Basingstoke defence from the off.
Basingstoke had some chances which they couldn’t convert and the score remained 0-0 at half time. After the restart Marlow had two goals disallowed, however they eventually converted a penalty corner despite goalkeeper Ben Cowling saving the initial shot on target.
Marlow continued to press on and they scored a second through a well worked team goal, ending the game 0-2.
Basingstoke Ladies 2s were at home once again against Milton Keynes Ladies 1. Basingstoke started well, converting their first two penalty corners through Sharon Stones and Gilly Dunning.
However, before the end of the first half, Milton Keynes broke through the Basingstoke defence and brought it back to 2-1 at half time.
Basingstoke continued to press on in the second half, scoring a third through Clare Griffiths.
Milton Keynes then piled on the pressure and tested the Basingstoke defence with a number of penalty corners, with one finding the net to bring it back to 3-2.
Despite some tired legs, Basingstoke held strong and added a fourth through a deflection and second goal from Sharon Stones.
Basingstoke Men’s 2s lost 0-4 at home to Chichester Men’s 2s. Basingstoke Ladies 3s secured a fantastic 4-0 win against Alton Ladies 2s, with two goals from Ava Jones. Basingstoke Men’s 3s beat Fareham Men’s 5s 3-2, the goals for Chris Garret, Will Delves and Greg Smith.
Basingstoke Ladies 4s drew 2-2 away against Salisbury Ladies 2s. Basingstoke Men’s 4s beat Fareham Men’s 7s 2-1, the goals for John-Paul Vout and Calum Saint.

Basingstoke Men’s 5s continued their strong run beating Lavant 3-1. Basingstoke Men’s 6s beat Hamble Men’s 4s 5-4.
Next week, the Ladies 1s take on Trojan’s Ladies 1s at home at 2pm in the Hampshire derby and their final home game this year. Prior to this, Basingstoke Men’s 1s face Oxford OBU at 11.45am, alongside another four home games across the club.
