The Romanian National Philharmonic Orchestra is all set to perform in Basingstoke.
The orchestra will perform at The Anvil on Wednesday, November 23, conducted by Sergey Smbatyan and joined by violinist Maxim Vengarov.
Jean Sibelius’ Karelia Suite opens this concert, with its rough-hewn style contrasting beautifully with two melodious works from contemporary composer Alexey Shor -Symphonic Prelude, a newly-commissioned piece which shall be enjoying its world premiere, and the romantic Seascapes for Violin and Orchestra, with Maxim Vengerov as soloist in this mellifluous work written in four evocative movements.

Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto has the atmosphere of a fairy tale or dream, with the two rhapsodic outer movements divided by a quirky scherzo. The composer’s delicate orchestration is to the fore as the finale evaporates in an iridescent shimmer of soloist, strings and flute.
