AN AUTHOR from Tadley is releasing her debut children's book to inspire kids to look after the environment.

Author and screenwriter Kerry McIntosh is releasing her debut book, Rory Green, Secret Agent to the Queen on November 22.

Kerry was inspired to write the book following a breast cancer diagnosis in 2020.

She said: “I was always a go-getter, but it was a real kick up the bum and a reminder that we are all here for a purpose, we are all here for a reason.”

Aimed at children aged seven to nine, the book follows the adventures of Rory Green and his bee side-kick Bobbee as they act as special secret agents on environmental missions for the Queen Bee.

Kerry said that she wrote the book to empower children to believe in their own power and make a difference in the world.

She said: “It’s a book about giving kids the confidence in their own power.

“All of us, I count myself within this, you go through school and compare yourself to the other kids.

“You think ‘oh, that person is brilliant at x, and I’m terrible at that’, but that person might be looking at you wishing they were more like you.

“And that resonates with me.”

She went on to describe the book as “Mission Impossible vs. Inspector Gadget”, saying: “It’s a fun story but it’s got an overarching theme of ‘It’s cool to care about nature.’”

Having been working on her writing career for 14 years, Kerry said that she is very excited for the book to be released.

She said: “Honestly, it is utterly bizarre, it is so surreal, but it is so brilliant to say that I am actually standing in my dream right now.

“I had my own event company many years ago, and I walked away from it to pursue this passion, and it’s taken this long.

“And so, to be standing in my dream and going oh wow, I’m about to start a schools tour next week, like, what is going on; this is happening!

“And I am so grateful.”

Rory Green: Secret Agent to the Queen will be published on November 22.

Printed in OpenDyslexic font, it will be available in paperback, as well as in E-book and audiobook formats.
