FOOTBALL fans packed into pubs across Basingstoke to watch England’s first World Cup game.
Pubs and other venues were full with fans on Monday afternoon as England secured a 6-2 win over Iran.
Andy Roberts, who was watching the game with 10 of his friends at the Village Hotel, said: "We've been waiting too long now, it's our time to bring football back home again!"
One of Andy's friends, Dave Jones who was also watching the game and has always been a football fan added: "We done really well today, we attacked well and I hope we continue doing the same thing and go all the way."
Friends and families all gathered around to celebrate England's success when the game kicked off at 1pm.
Alex Jubb said: "It's been a great atmosphere today, it's 100 per cent coming home."
However, the controversy surrounding how well England will do still remains.
Martin Freeman and Pete Dennison said: "There has been a lot of talk about not winning the game today, but look, we smashed it!"
Pete added: "I do fear for our defending but I think we'll make it to the semi-finals."
The next upcoming game for England in Group B will be on Friday at 7pm against USA.
