SCOTT Chilton has been confirmed as the new chief constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.

The area's police and crime panel has approved the selection of Mr Chilton, who will take over from Olivia Pinkney at the end of February next year.

Mr Chilton began his career in Hampshire but is currently Dorset's chief constable.

Hampshire's police and crime commissioner, Donna Jones, said: "He is an ambitious officer with an outstanding record who brings with him a wealth of experience."

Mr Chilton said he was honoured to have been chosen.

"It’s a real privilege to be the first home grown Chief Constable in the force where I began my caree and to be given the opportunity to lead the dedicated and committed officers, staff and volunteers," he said.

Panel chairman Simon Bound added: "Scott Chilton is an excellent candidate for this position.

"His answers to questions posed by the panel demonstrated that he is very suitable for the role. Hampshire and the Isle of Wight will have a new chief constable of very high calibre.”
