Dear Editor,
While households are struggling to pay soaring energy bills and trying to stay afloat, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s windfall tax still has a huge loophole losing billions that could help with energy bills.
According to Greenpeace UK, oil and gas giants can avoid paying most of the tax if they drill for more oil, to sell to the highest bidders anywhere in the world, making billions in profits while accelerating the climate crisis.
The Investment Allowance will increase the UK’s dependence on fossil fuels and encourages further oil and gas production, at the cost of the taxpayer, instead of supporting a switch to cheaper green energy.
How is this supposed to help anyone when many face the dilemma of trying to eat, stay warm and keep their homes?
And, while many have died unnecessarily because they could not see a doctor, be admitted into hospital, or receive treatment on time due to the NHS struggling to cope because of the Government, Rishi intends to axe half of its workforce to cut costs as reported in The Telegraph.
Never has a government been so out of touch with the public. This government will be remembered for destroying people’s lives, the planet, and the NHS.
