BASINGSTOKE Canal Society has raised more than £50,000 towards its efforts to replace a community trip boat.
The group is planning to use the money to replace its community trip boat Kitty with a fully electric boat.
The society raised the amount with the help of crowdfunding during last December; an art auction at The Lightbox in February; corporate contributions from Waitrose, The Ion Group and SC Johnson; grants from The Syder Foundation, The Shanley Foundation and from Will Forster on behalf of Surrey County Council; legacies left by Joyce Keep and Peter Harman; and other generous donations and a lot of hard work from its volunteers.

Despite crossing the £50,000 milestone, the society is continuing its fundraiser with a second round of crowdfunding for £10,000 to get it over the line.
The society is also auctioning the entire collection of canal paintings by Nancy Larcombe, who toured the country in her boats.
The paintings were left to the Basingstoke Canal Authority when she died.
The auction finishes at 9pm on December 16.
