German retailer chain Lidl has confirmed that its new supermarket in Tadley will open its doors for the first time on Thursday, December 15.

The new store on Aldermaston Road will open with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the mayor and mayoress of Basingstoke and Deane, as well as children from the local Burnham Copse Primary School.

Lidl said the new and modern store will create around 40 jobs for the local community, and new starters will be paid the highest rate of any UK supermarket following the discounter’s wage increases in October.

The new store features the supermarket’s famous in-store bakery, customer toilets with baby changing facilities and ample parking for cars and bicycles.

The store will be open between 8am to 10pm on Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

Lidl GB’s regional head of property James Mitchell said: “It is fantastic that we can open our doors and welcome everyone into our new store in Tadley.

"We have received overwhelming support from residents, and we would like to thank all those who have played a part in delivering this new store. We now look forward to serving our multi-award-winning products to everyone within the local community just in time for Christmas.”

Lidl claims it is currently the sixth-largest supermarket in the UK with a market share of 7.2 per cent.
