A LOVING husband and wife will be closing the service centre they have run for more than 40 years.

Jim and Sandra O’Reilly, who have been married for an incredible 44 years, are set to close Basingstoke Service Centre later this month. 

They took to Facebook to inform customers about the sad news.

They posted: "After more than 40 years we’ve decided it’s the right time. Basingstoke Service Centre will close its doors for the last time on the 31st of December 2022.

"Several factors have brought us to this decision age, the demise of the high street (particularly the Top of Town Basingstoke), a change in shopping habits and manufacturers and distributors not supporting smaller businesses.

"However Jim’s side of the business will continue as Basingstoke Appliance Solutions, you will still be able to use the 01256 357640 number to contact Stuart to book a repair. He has over 25 years of experience as an apprentice for us and working at Bosch.

"It’s been a pleasure to serve our past and present customers some of whom have become friends, it’s the end of an era."

Residents have also taken to Facebook to wish the married pair a happy retirement.

Claire O'brien posted: "Happy retirement to the both of you. you will be sorely missed, Merry Christmas and all the best for 2023."

Others thanked them for all their hard work over the years.

Ann Sidnell posted: "Thank you for your service over the years. We know that we could always trust you and your service. You've always been so helpful and trustworthy.

"We had heard that you were closing. Quite understand why, although sad to hear it. We were wondering who we should turn to when we need help with our appliances, so thank you for a contact number for us to contact help when we need it. Much appreciated.

"Wishing you all the best for the future."

Tatiana De Almeida also posted: "Oh no! What a shame! You guys were so reliable and reasonable! Thank you for your service over the years."

They ended the post by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
