A BASINGSTOKE athlete won the senior men’s title at the county cross country championships held at Fairthorne Manor.
Basingstoke and Mid Hants (BMH) Athletic Club member Tom Syckelmoore took the title with a 35:22 over the 10km course.
It was a great turnout for the Basingstoke club as they managed to field teams in nearly every age group despite it being a very wet and blustery day.
BMH also picked up bronze in the team event with Rob Wood, Steve Reid, James Beeks, Cameron Coveney and Alex Bigg also scoring.
Michael Hickey also picked up bronze in the MV60 category.
Further club success came in the U13 boys event with Archie Burniston taking individual silver in a close-fought race. The team also picked up bronze with Christo Porter, William Brooks and Travis Moore completing the team.
The club had two scoring teams with the second string, Thomas Mills, Elliot Trepess, Caspar Morris and Jake Juden finishing eighth.
In the under 20 men’s race, Ben White took bronze with the team, Oli Smith, Nathan Lane, Boyd and Oliver Jno-Lewis, also taking third place.
Megan Hope was the sole representative in the U20 women’s race finishing in fourth.
The opening races at Under 11 level featured eight club athletes.
Ian Bahia narrowly missed out on a podium finish but ran strongly to take fourth overall. The club finished fourth in the team event with William Brain, Caiden Griffin, Blake Goddard & Hamish Pye-Reid also racing.
Evie Bowditch, Emily Battershall & Lacie Konieczko were the Under 11 girls representatives.
The Under 13 girls team finished fifth just eight points off the medals, with Georgi Barrett, Abigail Spencer, Amelie Smith and Anna Edwards the scoring team.
Mia and Ava Spiers and Celeste Vickers also raced. In the Under 15 girls, Immi Edwards (5th), Uma Doublet (10th), Daisy Allford, Lily-Mae Lancaster-Evans and Matilda Gibson ran , the club finished fourth.
In the Under 15 boys, the club had two teams finishing fifth and eighth with George Sharp, Noah O'Neil, Orrin Wheeler, Freddie Eason, Caleb Proctor, Will Edwards, Callum Savings, Nicholas Workman.
In the Under 17 women race, Charlotte Vickers, Sophie Yates and India Farrant narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth – just three points off silver.
It was an impressive turnout by the Under 17 men too, with two scoring teams of Tom Yates, Sam Kemp and Jack Hedderly in fifth, KIan Mayoh, Charlie Coveney and Finlay Baulch in sixth.
In the penultimate race of the day – senior/vet women – there were two top 10 finishers as Rebecca Sleap claimed fifth and Charlotte Ragan eighth.
Rebecca Pearson finished in 20th and Cat Coveney, the club's sole veteran runner, completed the team that finished fourth overall.
