Basingstoke Men’s 1s started the second half of the league fixtures with a defeat as they travelled to play Staines Men’s 1s.
The away team were under pressure from the off, but a break of play led to Basingstoke taking an early 1-0 lead through Grant Rouse.
Shortly before half time, Staines equalised through a penalty corner. Both teams had further chances in the second half, with Staines taking a lead with a deflection in front of goal.
With 10 minute to go Basingstoke earned a penalty corner, which Andy Pett converted to bring it back to 2-2.
With less than five minutes left, Staines scored a well-worked team goal to take the three points.
Basingstoke Ladies 1s beat the RAF 3-0 in a friendly last weekend. Basingstoke are currently in the middle of their winter break, with the league restarting on February 4.
Basingstoke Ladies 2s were at home against Portsmouth Ladies 1. The home team started well, however a strong Portsmouth side kept the game close throughout the first half.
A skilful run into the circle from Ellie Williams created a simple tap in for Sharon Stones at the end of the first half to make it 1-0.
Basingstoke continued to fight in the second half, however some strong Portsmouth pressure earned them a penalty corner which they converted to bring it back to 1-1.
Both teams battled on but were unable to break the deadlock before full time.
Basingstoke Men’s 2s lost 1-4 at home to Portsmouth Men’s 1s. Basingstoke Ladies 3s lost 0-4 against Winchester Ladies 1s. Basingstoke Men’s 3s beat Petersfield Men’s 2s 2-0, the goals from Greg Smith and Chris Garrett.
Basingstoke Ladies 4s beat Waterside Ladies 1s 3-1 in their first game of the weekend, with a hat-trick of goals for Caroline Mackay. Basingstoke continued their strong form on Sunday, beating Alton 3-0 with two goals for Jude Bird and one for Ellie Youngs.
Basingstoke Men’s 4s lost 2-3 to US Portsmouth Men’s 2s.
Basingstoke Ladies 5s also had two games last weekend. Basingstoke beat Gosport Ladies 2s 10-0, with four goals apiece for Corrie Stirling-Stainsby and Emily Romain.
On Sunday, Basingstoke beat Petersfield Ladies 2s 6-1.
Basingstoke Men’s 5s beat Fareham 7s 3-0, the goals for Fabrizio Maraschin, Declan Nicholls, and Nick.
Basingstoke Ladies 6s lost 0-5 to Havant Ladies 4s. Basingstoke Men’s 6s drew 3-3- against Trojan’s 6s, the goals from Archie Youngs and Duncan Crowder.
Next week, Basingstoke Men’s 1s face Henley at home 11 45am, followed by Basingstoke Men’s 3s against Haslemere and Basingstoke Men’s 4s against Basingstoke Men’s 5s at 3pm.
In the second inter-club derby of the weekend, Basingstoke Ladies 3s face Basingstoke Ladies 4s at 10 45am. Basingstoke Ladies 2s play two games this weekend, both away, against Banbury and Wycombe.
