Basingstoke Ladies 1s got off to a great start to the second half of the season with wins against Penarth and Exe Ladies 1s.
After a late winner at Penarth last week, the team caused more upset at home against an Exe side that are currently one of the top three teams in the league.
Basingstoke started well with some excellent build-up play and early chances to take the lead.
Exe also had some clear chances but Gemma Carswell kept them at bay, making some outstanding saves. The midfield and defence were crucial in keeping the Exe attacks at bay and Basingstoke dominated their defensive D any time they approached.
At half time it was fairly even and could have swung either way. Late into the third quarter Basingstoke were awarded a penalty corner.
Zoe Lyon stepped up to drag flick, however it was saved by the keeper but fell to Kirsty Dovey who beat the keeper and defence on the line to take the lead.
Basingstoke came under more pressure in the fourth quarter as Exe looked to find an equaliser. Again, Basingstoke remained composed to secure another three points and now sit fifth in the league.
Next week, Basingstoke Ladies 1s travel to face Cheltenham Ladies 1s, push back at 2pm.
