A BASINGSTOKE student raised almost £200 for charity from his 24-hour radio show in memory of his beloved nan.

Jake Hurst, a student at Basingstoke College of Technology, started his radio show on Wednesday, February 15 at 3pm and carried on broadcasting until the following afternoon, and raised £170 for Alzheimer's Research UK.

During the radio show the teen was overjoyed as at one point there were 600 listeners tuning in.

Jake's nan sadly died on August 5, 2017, aged 77, after suffering from dementia for many years.

In his nan's memory, the 17-year-old decided to do the radio show to help improve research and treatment for dementia.

He said: "It feels amazing to have raised this money for charity because any money donated is money that they didn't have before.

"The radio show was great, I was hoping to raise £200 in donations but the GoFundMe page is still open, so there is still hope!"

Alzheimer's Research UK has since been in contact with Jake and will be sending him a t-shirt for his dedication to helping the charity.
