AN English folk singer is all set to return to Basingstoke's theatre next month.

Kate Rusby will return to The Anvil on Thursday 27 April, marking the end of her celebrations for 30 years in the business.

She has headlined various British folk festivals and is one of the best-known contemporary English folk singers.

She has often been hailed as the first lady of folk and has forged an impressive 30-year career, breaking records and headlining some of the biggest venues in the UK.

A remarkable, interpretive singer, Kate’s soulful vocals resonate with the wistful beauty of an earthbound angel.

As early as 1999, aged just 26, Kate was named one of the Top Ten Folk Voices of the Century. From being a 1999 Mercury Prize Winner – almost unheard of for a folk singer both then and now – to her latest albums ‘Life In A Paper Boat’, ‘Philosophers Poets and Kings’, ‘Holly Head’ and ‘Hand Me Down’, Kate has stayed true to her folk and acoustic roots.

A folk singer at heart, she’s taken the genre to brand-new heights appealing way beyond the folk scene and her Yorkshire roots.

Inhabiting a lyric with unforced conviction – no matter how old or how modern – she has that rare ability to transport her audience, touching them emotionally and making each tune live vividly within their experience and imagination.

Audiences who come along to the show are sure to be thoroughly entertained by Kate’s choice of much-loved music from her back catalogue, stretching over the past 30 years of music making, together with a selection of fresh new songs from her 2022 album 30: Happy Returns.

As ever, she will also be joined on stage by her band, each a virtuoso in their own right, including her husband and producer Damien O’ Kane.

Rusby’s wondrous singing, hugely engaging Yorkshire wit, and the intuitive support of the band, ensure that everyone will be treated to a truly unforgettable concert so residents are encouraging to book tickets now.
