A BASINGSTOKE author has been reading her own book to school pupils to celebrate World Book Day.
Pupils have been enjoying listening to Gigi and the Giant Ladle: The Treasured Tree, which is Leanne Edney’s second published book.
The story focuses on values similar to those in primary schools, such as love, respect and support.

It follows the character Gigi who helps everyone understand the significance of destroying an old tree, coming up with a solution to ensure all are respected, supported and remain loved.
Leanne was inspired to write the story by a real, large oak tree named The Hundred Guinea Oak at The Vyne – a National Trust property near Basingstoke.
In the run-up to World Book Day, Leanne has read, inspired and brought alive her story to more than 500 pupils at schools across the borough.
She said: “There were all sorts of questions asked from the young pupils, including ‘what is it like being an author’, ‘how did you get so talented at writing stories’ and ‘who drew all the great pictures’.”
