THE organisers of a Basingstoke comic book convention have announced that various celebrity guests will no longer be appearing because of a clash with filming schedules.
Famous actors from the world of comic books are set to head to Basingstoke for the Comic Con in May – a special convention for enthusiasts.
Doctor Who star David Tennant and Walking the Dead actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan are among those announced as attending the event at The Hampshire Court Hotel.

However, organisers have announced that stars of The Umbrella Academy are no longer able to make it.
A post on Basingstoke Comic Con’s social media said: “The Umbrella Academy filming schedule means David Castaneda, Emmy Raver Lampman, Genesis Rodriguez and Tom Hopper are unable to attend Basingstoke Comic Con.
“Everyone who has purchased their extras will have an email from us offering various options including a refund. We will be welcoming these guests to our next event in London on August bank holiday, which will be announced soon.”
Tickets to the event cost between £30 for day access and £1,499 for access to all three days along with extras including autographs and photographs with every actor.

Information on the event website under FAQs advises ticket buyers that ‘all guests appearances at our events are subject to work, personal commitments and unexpected events’.
It adds: ‘If a guest is unable to attend or has to leave early, KTEG Limited will provide a full refund for all events specific to that guest, such as autographs or photo ops.’
However, refunds will not be given for general tickets to the event.
Paul McGillion, a Stargate actor, posted on his Twitter account to say he will be attending the Basingstoke event with his co-stars.
Hey everybody, I’ll be at Basingstoke Comic Con, taking place at Hampshire Court Hotel on 19 -20 May 2023. Organisers announced on February 24 that day tickets for Sunday were ‘sold out’ before announcing on March 17 that Saturday and Sunday ‘day access tickets’ were ‘back on sale’ with a limited number available.
A spokesperson for the event told the Gazette: "When we signed the contract with the Umbrella Academy actors, they believed that they would be available, however their filming schedule for the final season of Umbrella Academy is running over and they are now unable to attend.
"But instead of returning the deposits paid, they all decided to change their appearances to an event we are holding at the end of August.
"Before we announced this on social media, we emailed every person who had bought anything from an Umbrella Academy guest offering them:
1. A full refund of everything they had bought for Basingstoke Comic Con
2. A refund of anything they had bought for an Umbrella Academy guest
3. To swap their tickets to the event in August
"All refunds have been done the same day which we heard back from any attendee."
