Basingstoke Ladies 1s registered a vital win against Isca & University of Exeter at home last week as they continue their battle to stay in the league.
Basingstoke, sponsored by K J Smith Solicitors, started strongly and opened the scoring in the first quarter through a converted one-on-one by Madeline Saunders.
The home team continued to absorb the pressure in the second half, until Saunders put them 2-0 up, finishing a well-worked team goal from the penalty spot. Basingstoke held Isca for the rest of the half and earned a penalty corner on the full-time whistle, which Jo Bowden converted to make it 3-0. Basingstoke are now eighth in the league with two games remaining and travel to local side Trojans this weekend.
Basingstoke Men’s 1s lost 1-4 to league winners Banbury. Basingstoke are fighting to stay in the league and face Slough next week, who are only one point above Basingstoke.
Basingstoke Ladies 2s had a fantastic 3-2 win against Haslemere, with two goals from Clare Griffiths. Basingstoke Men’s 2s earned a point away against Trojan’s 2s.
Basingstoke Ladies 3s beat Portsmouth Ladies 2s 4-2. Basingstoke Men’s 3s, who have secured promotion, drew 2-2 with Chichester Men’s 4s and are now five points clear at the top of the table with two games remaining.
Basingstoke Ladies 4s won 5-1 against Chichester Ladies 2s, including a hat-trick from Jude Bird. Basingstoke Men’s 4s drew 1-1 with Isle of Wight Men’s 2s, just missing out on promotion by two points in their final game of the season.
Basingstoke Men’s 5s lost 1-7 to US Portsmouth Men’s 2s. Basingstoke Ladies 5s won 9-0 against Portsmouth, maintaining their lead of 4 points at the top of the table.
Basingstoke Ladies 6s lost 1-6 to Isle of Wight Ladies 2s. Basingstoke Men’s 6s beat Gosport 4-1.
Next week at home, Basingstoke Men’s 2s take on Alton Men’s 1s at 10.15am, followed by Basingstoke Ladies 2s face top-of-the-league Wycombe at home 11.45am. Basingstoke Ladies 5s can secure their league win at 1.30pm against Petersfield.
