A TOY library in Whitchurch is looking for volunteers in the local area.

Whitchurch Toy Library is a community organisation run by a group of volunteers that meets at the Methodist Church in Whitchurch every Wednesday between 10-11.30am during term time.

Currently, all committee members are parents whose little ones play at the toy library. The committee is actively looking for volunteers to help on the committee and on a rota to help set up and tidy up.

Currently, the toy library has four key members, but are looking to expand the team further, to minimise each member's weekly commitment.

Daniel Norwood, 48, is the treasurer of the toy library, and has been volunteering with them for five years. He said: "Being a part of toy library has been a great experience. I have met a lovely friendly group of parents, whilst hopefully adding value to a local community group.

"I came with my daughter when we first moved to the area five years ago. We were made to feel very welcome and soon decided to become more actively involved. It has been a great way to get to know new parents in the area in a space that is safe and sociable. Our second child is starting nursery so it's time to pass the toy library baton to the next generation of parents and offspring."

As well as the stay-and play session, the library does exactly what one would expect a library to do - members can borrow toys for a small fee on a weekly basis, giving children access to different toys on a regular basis. The library can also rent out larger items for use at parties and events, subject to approval.

Daniel added: "Whitchurch Toy library is a fantastic resource open to everyone with children of pre-school age, but we're struggling to recruit volunteers on a regular basis. I would encourage local mums and dads to get involved for a few hours each week to help ensure the continued access of shared toys to local children."
