Oakley BC members who play indoors found themselves in two finals last Sunday, April 2, but it was a day of mixed results for the club.
Alice Lovett, who was looking to retain her county women's indoor singles title, was defeated by Lorraine Slater with a score of 13-21.
However, Alice had a little consolation later in the day when she won the Loddon Vale mixed pairs title with her father.
The Loddon Vale was also the scene for the final of the Ambler/Fuller Trophy, a single rink competition played by local outdoor clubs.
Oakley's rink of Steve Devonish, Bob Goodyear, Sean Lassman, and Graham Tompkins led 17-8 after 12 ends, but Howard Park fought back and won the game with a final score of 19-18. This was the second year in a row that Oakley lost in the final to a team they had beaten at the round-robin stage.
As the indoor season comes to an end, Oakley BC is organising an open day on Saturday, April 29, from 10am to 4pm. Anyone is welcome to come and give bowls a try, and all they need to bring are flat-soled shoes or trainers. This is promised to be a great opportunity to discover a new hobby and meet new people.
