Basingstoke Men’s 3s came back from 0-2 down against Winchester Men’s 5s to win 3-2. The Basingstoke side secured the league title and finished five points ahead of second-placed Weymouth. They will move to play in South Central Division 4 next season.
Basingstoke Ladies 1s, sponsored by K J Smith Solicitors, faced Reading Ladies 2s at home in their final game of the season. Basingstoke started well, building up the play and absorbing the early Reading pressure. In the second quarter, Fiona Parker drove down the right into the D and slotted the ball across to Claire Bowman to score for Basingstoke, with the score 1-0 at half time.
Basingstoke continued to have chances in the second half as they hit the post, but they could not extend their lead. They continued to absorb the Reading pressure late on and held on to a fantastic 1-0 win. The win ensures Basingstoke will remain in the Vitality West Conference National League for next season.
Basingstoke Men’s 1s had a fantastic 8-0 win to finish their season against bottom side Maidenhead Men’s 1s. Despite the win, however, Basingstoke were unable to escape the bottom two positions of the league and have been relegated into South Central Premier Division 1 for next season.
Basingstoke Ladies 2s lost 0-4 away to New Forest Ladies 1s. Basingstoke finish the season in eighth place. Basingstoke Men’s 2s lost 2-6 to Hamble Men’s 2s, finishing the league in 12th position and will hence be relegated into South Central Division 2 South for next season.
Basingstoke Ladies 3s earnt a spectacular 11-0 win against Chichester Ladies 2s. Basingstoke Ladies 3s finished the season in sixth place. Basingstoke Ladies 4s lost 1-4 against Winchester Ladies 2s and finished the season in seventh place, one point behind Basingstoke Ladies 3s.
Basingstoke Ladies 5s lost 0-1 against second-placed Haslemere Ladies 4s. Basingstoke secured the league title by one point ahead of Haslemere.
Basingstoke Men’s 6s lost 1-5 against Gosport 1898. Basingstoke finished the season in eighth place.
All league hockey has now finished for the 2022-23 season for Basingstoke. Training will restart again in August for the new season to start in September 2023.
