A 13-YEAR-old Basingstoke boy has become the 2023 British modern tetrathlon champion after competing among athletes older than him.

Travis Moore from Oakley competed as one of the younger athletes in the U15 category, at the University of Bath, which is also the national training centre for Pentathlon GB.

The talented athlete completed a 100m swim, eight fencing rounds and three 600m laser runs with swift turnaround times.

Travis previously won the 2022 Championships in the shorter distance U13 category.

The Sherfield School pupil has been involved in modern pentathlon since 2019.

A previous Basingstoke and Deane junior sportsman of the year finalist, Travis won the outstanding potential award for modern pentathlon when he was just nine years old.

He has a busy training schedule and is an active member of local clubs, Wessex Wyvern MPC and Basingstoke Mid Hants Athletics. He also trains weekly at Reading Fencing Club.

The rising young star has represented Great Britain at numerous international competitions since joining the Olympic sport. After claiming gold at the British laser run championships in Edinburgh last year, Travis became the European champion in Marathon Bay, Greece, and went on to win silver at the World laser run championships in Lisbon, Portugal, against strong contenders from South Africa and Hungary.

Travis also won bronze in the world triathle championships in Madeira, Portugal, which saw athletes complete their continuous shoot-swim-run on the sandy beach off the North Atlantic Ocean.

Looking ahead, Travis has his sights set on qualifying for this year’s world laser run championships in Bath in August and earning a place in Team GB for world triathle championships in Bali, Indonesia in November.
