STAFF from a Chineham GP surgery which is set to relocate have moved to another office in Basingstoke.

However, health bosses said this is a “temporary measure” and they are still not able to confirm the location of Chineham Medical Practice’s new premises after plans to move to Jameson House fell through following months of planning.

As previously reported, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board (IBC) approved plans last year to move Chineham Medical Practice to Jameson House.

The multi-million-pound development was planned because the current site of the surgery in Reading Road is no longer large enough and does not meet the needs of the growing population.

However, after almost two years of talks, the ICB announced in February that the move will not go ahead because it did not represent “value for money”.

The ICB said in March that it continues to “progress a local option” to relocate the surgery and said this “remains a key priority for the ICB and we are working hard to this end”.

Administrative and clerical staff from Chineham Medical Practice and Whitewater Loddon Primary Care Network have since started working from Dame Mary Fagan House (DMFH) in Lutyens Close, Chineham, which is opposite Jameson House.

However, the ICB said this is just a “temporary measure”.

Asked whether the rest of Chineham Medical Practice will relocate to Dame Mary Fagan House, a spokesperson for the ICB said there is no update on the relocation plans.

They said: “Some administrative and clerical staff from Chineham Medical Practice and Whitewater Loddon Primary Care Networks are working from DMFH as a temporary measure and are co-locating with the Integrated Care Board there.

"This provides many benefits of being able to co-locate and work closely together on primary care provision across Basingstoke and the surrounding areas.”

They said that there is no update on the relocation of the surgery, adding: “We are continuing to progress with a local option and once everything is in place, we will be able to confirm the new location. New accommodation for Chineham Medical Practice remains a key priority for the ICB and we are working hard to this end.”
