A CAFE which sells sweet treats had its security camera pulled down during an attempted burglary earlier this week.

The incident happened between 3am and 7am on Monday, April 17, at Cuppies and Cream on the High Street in Hartley Wintney, Hook.

Hampshire Constabulary has told the Gazette the security camera had been knocked down and security lighting wires had been cut. Damage was also caused to the door but no entry was gained and nothing was stolen.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: "Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious is asked to get in touch. Did you see anyone acting suspiciously? Did you hear anything suspicious?

"Perhaps you were driving through the area and have dash-cam footage that may have captured something?  Anyone with any information is asked to contact us on 101 or online at https://www.hampshire.police.uk/ quoting reference 44230149734."

Cuppies and Cream took to Facebook to share the news with residents.

Staff posted: "Last night the worst thing happened. Cuppies HW had an attempted break-in

"There is an ongoing police investigation and we’ve been advised this evening by the police officer in charge that sharing on social media is a good thing and they will shortly be releasing a statement appealing for witnesses and information too.

"Cuppies got off lightly compared to our neighbours (not the lovely @ruralfringe) though they did have damage to their shop too.

"Today was mostly spent dealing with replacing locks, fixing doors and getting over the shock. Our security camera was ripped down and our security lighting was also destroyed.

"So if you visited Cuppies HW today and it felt like an odd vibe, I’m sorry. Our customer loo was also out of action due to them breaking the door so sorry if that was an issue too! I’ve received a few messages asking if I knew why there was a police presence in the village, but I’d not responded as I wasn’t sure if I should/could.

"Cuppies means a lot to many of us and when something like this happens, it affects us all. I also know there’s been an influx of break-ins in the area lately and if anything this is a stark reminder that we all need to look out for each other and be extra vigilant."

Cuppies and Cream have been contacted for more information but the Gazette has not had a response.
