SEVERAL athletes from Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletics Club have achieved impressive results in recent marathons across the UK and beyond.
With events such as Brighton, Southampton, Seville, Manchester, Boston, and London on the roster, the club has been bustling with dedicated runners training for months in preparation.
Many athletes set personal bests and club records, with some even participating in their first-ever marathon.
Tom Harding, Ben Harris, Ben Nutley, Alistair Bridgman, James Bate, Chris Furness, Michal Bursak, Dave Rawlins, Nick Onslow, and Chris Gode all achieved sub-three hour finishes, while Mark Slaney, Nick Battisson, Mike Hill, John Bigg, Sean Bos, Avi Govind, Tom Steckiw, John McElroy, Kevin Nicholson, Ian Thompson, Nikki Savings, Debbie Cook, Terry Wegg, Manivannan Mutiah, Tom Fowler, Gail Tyson, Mike Hickey, Chrissie Cairns, Eleanor Jones, Connor Hollands, Elaine Liversage, and Rhi Perryman all completed the race in under four hours.

The club also boasts an impressive young team of 22 athletes, many of whom have already achieved performances that meet the AAA standards this track and field season.
Daisy Allford in U15G 800m and Georgie Hedderly in U15B discus throw both rank as Grade 1 athletes, while Ben Barker U15B shot put and Mikun Adeniran U20M Discus are both Grade 2 athletes.
Archie Burniston, Immi Edwards, Lily Ward, Maisie Hibberd, Onyinoyi Obadaki, and Stefan O’Loughnan are all Grade 3 athletes, while Ava Cassia, Celeste Vickers, Curtis Murray, Denaya Guma, Guy Vitaly Sorokopud, Hunea Clarke, Jan Addington, Lily O’Connell, Maisie Hibberd, Oliver Hall, Ollie Hibberd, Sophia Eben Aimine, and Una Doublet rank as Grade 4 athletes.
In addition, Basingstoke recently hosted the Coronation Open Athletics Meet on May 5 at the newly refurbished Down Grange track. The event attracted over 160 participants from over 20 clubs across the country, with featured events such as 100m, 200m, 800m, and 1 mile alongside field events such as Javelin and Shot Put.
The near-perfect running and throwing conditions produced some outstanding performances and personal bests across all disciplines.

Notable PBs include Izabel Brown, who achieved a new PB of 8.14m, over 78cm further than previously in the U15G shot put.
Anna Edwards in U15G 800m took 11 seconds off last year's time in only her first 800m race this season and left the opposition way behind.
Georgie Hedderly got PBs in both the 100M and the shot with a new throw of 11.02m, beating his previous best by 50cm. Sophie Doherty in the U20W javelin with 28.64m added over 3.5m to her best throw of last season.
With the Hampshire County Championships taking place in Portsmouth on May 13-14, it is hoped that the high standard of performances achieved by the athletes can bring home some medals for the club.
