Oakridge and Basing United battled it out in the Basingstoke Junior B Cup Final on Saturday, with Basing United coming out on top 1-0, writes Tony Spencer.

Oakridge started slowly, allowing Basing United to apply pressure straight from the start. Brodie Good pulled off some first-class saves to keep Oakridge in the game. As the match progressed, Oakridge started to assert their style of play, passing and moving to create opportunities. Sam Trodd and Matt Fry both had chances, but they were unable to break the deadlock.

In the second half, Oakridge continued to dominate the play, but they were made to pay for a few sloppy mistakes. Basing United took advantage of one of these mistakes to score the only goal of the game. Oakridge responded by turning up the pressure, but they were unable to find an equaliser.

Despite the defeat, Oakridge should be proud of their performance. They played with passion and pride, and they were the better team for most of the game. Basing United were just clinical enough in front of goal, and they deserved to win.

Dan Schofield scored the winning goal for Basing United. James Sayer was also impressive for Basing United, and his performance was enough to earn him the Man of the Match award.
