Silchester Village defeated Tadley Calleva A 4-0 to win the Basingstoke Junior A Cup on Saturday, writes Tony Spencer.

The match was played at Barlows Park, and Silchester took the lead in the 23rd minute through Merson Webb. Dan Vickers doubled the lead just before half-time, and James Tennant added a third goal four minutes into the second half.

Vickers completed his brace in the 63rd minute to seal the victory for Silchester.

Tadley Calleva had a tough day at the office, and they never got their game started. They were also without their goalkeeper due to injury, which made it even more difficult for them to compete.

Silchester, on the other hand, were the better team on the day and they deserved to win.

After the match, Tadley Calleva manager John Smith said: "It was a disappointing day for us, but Silchester were the better team. We had a lot of injuries and we were also missing our goalkeeper, so it was always going to be a tough ask. But we'll dust ourselves off and start a new adventure in a higher league next season."

Silchester manager Paul Jones was delighted with his team's performance. He said: "I'm really proud of the boys. They played really well and they deserved to win. We've been working hard all season and it's great to see it pay off."
