MAGISTRATES have banned a Basingstoke drink driver from taking to the roads for more than a year.

Darren Sherwin, of Van Dyck Close, on April 20 drove a vehicle on Winchester Road with 82 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.

The 42-year-old pleaded guilty to the driving offence on May 9 during a hearing held at Basingstoke Magistrates Court.

During the same hearing, magistrates disqualified Sherwin from driving for 18 months and fined him £520.

He must also pay court costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £208.

A BASINGSTOKE drug driver has been disqualified and fined hundreds of pounds.

Neil Gammans, of Elmwood Way, on December 13 last year drive a motor vehicle on Whistler Close in Basingstoke with 394ug/L of Benzoylecgonine in his blood. The legal limit is 50.

During a hearing held at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on May 9, the 44-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence.

Magistrates banned him from getting behind the wheel for 18 months and ordered a fine of £500 to paid.

He must also pay court costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £200.

A BASINGTOKE man has been fined for failing to attend an appointment to assess whether he was dependent on or had a propensity to misuse a Class A drug.

A sample taken from Lee Chapman, of Elizabeth Road, revealed that he may have taken cocaine and heroin, but he failed to attend an assessment on January 3.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence during a hearing at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on May 10.

Magistrates fined Chapman £230 and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £92 victim surcharge.

MAGISTRATES have ordered a Basingstoke man to carry out unpaid work after he assaulted an emergency worker.

Andrew Wiseman, of Skippetts Gardens, was caught near his home behind the wheel of a black Mercedes on March 13, with 86 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35.

On the same day the 35-year-old assaulted PC Sard during the execution of his duty.

Wiseman pleaded guilty to both offences during a hearing at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on May 11.

He has been ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work, along with 30 rehabilitation days.

Magistrates also banned Wiseman from driving for 40 months and pay £100 compensation.

A BASINGSTOKE thief who stole beer and food from Marks and Spencer in the town has been ordered to pay £5 compensation.

Ryan Culley, of May Place, stole from the shop on April 1 and 25, taking items of an unknown value.

The 38-year-old indicated guilty pleas during a hearing at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on May 11.

Magistrates ordered no costs, and instead told Culley to pay £5 in compensation to M&S.

A DISQUALIFIED driver has been found guilty of driving off without paying for diesel at a petrol station in Sutton Scotney.

Leroy Rose, of Kings Road, Basingstoke, drove off without paying for £50 worth of fuel on March 20, last year.

At the time of the offence, he was also disqualified from driving and was caught behind the wheel of a red BMW on the A30.

The 35-year-old previously pleaded not guilty but was found guilty in his absence during a hearing at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on May 12.

Rose was fined £369 and told to pay £500 court costs, along with £50 compensation.

On the same date, he was also ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work after assaulting a man in Basingstoke on August 22, 2021.
