National Highways has said that the lane will remain closed until Friday, June 9.
A National Highways spokesperson said: "Some repairs to the M3 at junction 4a were carried out overnight on Thursday enabling us to open lanes 2/3/4. However, lane 1 will remain closed until 9 June due as we need to carry out further surveys and investigations to permanently resolve the issue.
"We apologise in advance for any delays this may cause, and we advise people using the northbound M3 heading towards the M25 to plan ahead and leave extra time for their journeys."
