LABOUR Party’s parliamentary candidate for Basingstoke launched a 'listening campaign’ in Eastrop and Grove on Saturday, June 3.
The aim of the campaign, launched by David Lawrence, is to hear residents’ views on what they want for their local area, and what they want from a local MP, ahead of the general election, expected next year.
Mr Lawrence has launched a survey for anyone in Basingstoke to express their concerns, raise issues and outline what they want from a local MP.

He said: “Politics should always begin with listening to people’s actual concerns, and that is why I have launched my residents’ survey as the centrepiece of my campaign. Over the course of the day we had 40 volunteers out knocking on doors and hearing residents’ concerns.
“After years of broken promises, lies and literal law-breaking in Downing Street, many people in Basingstoke have lost faith in politics and politicians. The only way to restore trust is to stop lecturing people, and instead begin by listening to the concerns of real people on the doorstep.
“What we found in Eastrop and Grove was that residents are fed up with this Conservative government, which has taken Basingstoke for granted for too long. People want a fresh start, and investment in the NHS, public services and the local economy.
“I chose to launch my campaign in Eastrop and Grove, as it is the only ward in the constituency which voted Liberal Democrat in the recent local elections. We will need these voters’ support if Labour is to win in Basingstoke. Most of the people I spoke to understand that Labour will be the clear choice in the general election to take on the Conservatives in Basingstoke.”
