A CHARITY that provides compassionate care to individuals with life-limiting illnesses in North Hampshire successfully hosted its first-ever outdoor movie night, captivating attendees and raising a sum of £3,000.

The event, organised by St Michael's Hospice, proved to be an incredible opportunity for the community to come together, creating lasting memories with friends and family while supporting a vital cause.

Under the open sky in the beautiful garden of Bartons Mill pub in Old Basing, a crowd of 190 people gathered to enjoy a screening of the beloved musical film, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

The funds raised during the event will be utilised by St Michael's Hospice to continue delivering essential care to those in need.

With the daily target of £14,000 required to sustain their services, the £3,000 contributed by the movie night serves as a significant boost to their ongoing efforts.

Funds were raised through ticket sales as well as a raffle, with a number of prizes being donated by local companies including Bartons Mill, Hattingley Valley Vineyard, MeetSpace VR Escape Rooms and Renegade Brewery.

Food and drinks were available to buy from the pub, so all viewers needed to do was bring along a chair or blanket and sit back and relax and wait for the sun to set before enjoying the smash hit film with friends and family.

Events manager at St Michael’s Hospice, Becky Legate, said: "This event was really exciting and completely new for us. It was a chance for our community to come together with friends and family to enjoy a fun night out, all while raising funds for their local Hospice.

"The film finished with people getting involved and singing and dancing and it was a really lovely atmosphere. We’re really thankful to everyone who bought tickets and took part in fundraising on the evening – thank you so much for helping us raise vital funds."

As an independent charity, St Michael’s Hospice needs to raise £14,000 a day to continue to provide free compassionate care for people in North Hampshire who have a life-limiting illness, are facing the end of life or experiencing bereavement, and rely heavily on their community of supporters to help them do this.

Eight out of 10 patients are cared for by donations from supporters and attending events such as the movie night helps contribute towards this care.
