FOR Oakley Bowling Club’s Sue Dixon it was a dream came true as she made her debut in the Hampshire John’s Trophy team and in doing so she became the 10th player from the club to represent the County at that level, writes Colin Statham.
Sue travelled, as a reserve, to Burnham for the game against Buckinghamshire and, only on arrival, did she find that a player had withdrawn through illness and that she was required to play.
With Hampshire having lost their first match to Kent it was essential that, if the County is to reach Leamington, Hampshire won the match, which they duly did, taking 16 of the 22 points on offer and with an aggregate score of 116 to 103.

There have been no local teams involved last week in national team events but as the Whitchurch Mixed Triples League approaches the halfway point, things are heating up.
In Division 1, Basingstoke Town Spades looked to apply pressure on long time leaders Andover Lions with five points and a 48-30 win over Whitchurch, but the Lions responded emphatically also picking up five points when beating Old Basing Cavaliers 57-31.
Division 2 leaders Kingsclere Partridges had no game this week and, although Alton Social closed the gap getting five points in a 49-31 win at Oakley Woodpeckers, Kingsclere still lead by two points and have a match in hand.

In Division 3, runaway and unbeaten leaders Old Basing Roundheads continued their good form with a 71-47 victory away against Howard Park Harriers whilst in Division 4 Aldermaston Elms continue at the top although their lead over St Mary Bourne Merlins has been cut to just 2.5 points.
Following changes in the league format introduced at the AGM there were no Basingstoke and District Rinks league games but in the Triples League Division 1 Kingsclere “A” remain clear leaders whilst in Division 2 unbeaten Basingstoke Town lead the way.
Town are also a massive 18 points clear at the top of Area 1 of the Stan Hardman league whilst Aldermaston lead Area 4.
