THE Basingstoke and District Tennis League (BDTL) Summer 2023 season has kicked off with great enthusiasm in May.
In men's division 1, Oakley A, newly promoted, has made an impressive start, securing two wins out of two matches to sit level on points with Andover A, despite having played one game less.
In women's division 1, Preston Candover A has established a comfortable lead, winning all three of their matches so far. In division 2, Preston Candover B has emerged as the early pace-setter, boasting an unblemished record that has allowed them to create a gap between themselves and their rivals.
Division 3 promises to be a closely contested affair, with Whitchurch B and Sherborne St John currently sharing the top spot with four points each, although Whitchurch B has played one more game.
The mixed doubles division 1 has witnessed a tight competition in the initial round of matches. Andover A and Old Basing A currently top the table, each with two wins from two games.
Meanwhile, a thrilling encounter between Stratton Park and Riseley A was cut short when the floodlights went off at 10pm, leaving the match in the balance.
In division 2, Goodworth Clatford and Whitchurch A have emerged as the early frontrunners, with Goodworth Clatford currently leading the pack, but Whitchurch A having a game in hand.
Alongside the regular season matches, the BDTL summer competitions have also commenced, covering all singles and doubles categories.
These exciting contests will continue until early September, culminating in the eagerly anticipated finals at Beechdown on September 17.
