A SCHOOL in Basingstoke has welcomed their new cohort of Year 7 students for their transition days.

On Thursday, June 29 and 30, The Costello School hosted the events where students had the opportunity to explore six different 'cities and countries', immersing themselves in diverse cultures and learning experiences.

Each subject area played an essential role in their journey, providing invaluable insights into English, languages, food tech, PE, mathematics, and science through engaging activities.

"We are delighted with the success of our Year 6 Transition Day and the enthusiasm shown by our new students," said Kirsty Protheroe, headteacher at the school.

She continued: "By providing an interactive and enjoyable introduction to life at our school, we are confident that our incoming students are well-prepared and excited to join our vibrant and diverse community in September. We cannot wait to welcome our new Year 7’s to their onward journey in September as the Class of 2028.”

To simulate a genuine travel experience, students were equipped with their own boarding passes, and passports to collect key information about each city and country. They gathered details on population, tourist attractions, and cultural traditions, further enriching their global knowledge.

On their departure from London, courtesy of "Costello Airways", the students enjoyed an inflight breakfast, setting the tone for an exciting adventure ahead. To beat the summer heat, ice lollies were a refreshing treat on Friday, adding to the joyous atmosphere.

The school's main hall underwent a remarkable transformation, showcasing various modes of transportation such as aeroplanes, buses, cars, and hot air balloons. Each chair was adorned with a house colour bag, containing a house colour passport and breakfast, emphasising our commitment to give fantastic experiences for each student.
