The Basingstoke branch of the Women’s Equality Party (WEP) has announced an event for local men to discuss how gender inequality negatively affects their lives.

The free event will be held in the garden at the Holly Blue pub on Sunday, August 6 from 12pm to 2pm.

WEP Basingstoke’s branch leader and Hatch Warren and Beggarwood election candidate, Stacy Hart, said: “The reason we fight for equality is that we believe it is better for everyone.

"We held a tremendously successful discussion event on this topic in 2021. Now, we want to bring that conversation to Hatch Warren and Beggarwood to explore why the Women’s Equality Party is a place for everyone, regardless of gender.

"Gender inequality has negative consequences for men, too as it can put men’s mental and physical health at risk and prevent them from enjoying equal parenting and caring roles. The Women’s Equality Party is committed to fighting for a better society and solving these issues for everyone's benefit.”

There will be guest speakers to talk about some of the challenges that men face as a consequence of gender inequality including Matthew Holman, the founding owner of Simpila Mental Health. This will be followed by a chance for attendees to discuss their own experiences.

Stacy added: “We will be discussing mental and physical health, the economic benefits of equality, violence prevention and much more. Everyone is welcome, and there will also be an opportunity to ask questions about our branch and our work in Hatch Warren and Beggarwood.”
