'DETERMINED' staff who work at a Basingstoke primary school have been praised for their dedication following a recent Ofsted inspection.

Rucstall Primary School has been rated as 'good' in its latest report, following a visit by inspectors on March 7 and 8.

In a report published into the inspection, staff have been praised for being determined to ensure "that every child should benefit from the exceptional personal development on offer" at the school.

The report reads: "They are successful in this aim, particularly for disadvantaged pupils. Pupils enjoy an enormous range of opportunities to develop their talents or acquire new ones."

The inspector also praised teachers' "high expectations of all pupils", and the "well-designed school curriculum".

Children are given credit for their "exemplary" behaviour within the school and their efforts to be "polite and courteous to each other, as well as adults".

The report concludes: "Rucstall Primary School continues to be a good school. There is enough evidence of improved performance to suggest that the school could be judged outstanding if we were to carry out a graded (section 5) inspection now. The school’s next inspection will be a graded inspection."

Headteacher Ruth Griffiths said: "We are extremely pleased and proud that Ofsted has recognised the quality of education and care that is provided for pupils at Rucstall. It is fantastic to know that the schools' provision is better than the judgement of good and inspectors believe it to be Outstanding! The inspection highlighted the exceptional offer that the school provides its pupils and their families, as well as how pupils flourish in our care.

"The children enjoyed the opportunity to share their experiences and were exemplary. Both the Governing Body and the Senior Leadership team are incredibly thankful to the staff for their ongoing support and hard work for the children and our community. We currently have a few remaining places for Early Years (Year R) in September, as well as some spaces for Year 3 and Year 6 if families are looking to join a small, but exceptional, school community in Basingstoke."

Other areas that are given credit within the report are governors who are "systematic in checking that the information they are given by leaders matches what is happening in school".
