THE leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has responded to a call from Basingstoke's MP to confirm the council's continued support for community safety patrols.
Maria Miller had called on co-leaders councillors Paul Harvey and Gavin James to continue to back the work of Community Safety Patrol Officers (CSPOs) in the town.
Dame Maria said: “For a number of years, Basingstoke has made it a priority to have a dedicated team of Community Safety Patrol Officers, who work to combat anti-social behaviour across our town.

"Residents need to know that this remains a priority for those who have taken over the running of the council from the Conservative councillors.”
Council leader Paul Harvey, who has been in charge of the council since May this year, replied by saying: "We are as committed as we have always been to supporting the CSPOs in the area.

"Wardens have been in place and visible in Basingstoke for 20 years, and in that time have done a wonderful job and continue to do so, playing their part alongside other agencies to be a visible presence on our streets and discourage all forms of antisocial behaviour.
"CSPOs do a great job and long may they continue to do so. Thank you to our CSPOs."
