The Coombs brothers, Dan and Callum, shared an unbroken century partnership as Basingstoke & North Hants strengthened their grip on the Southern Premier Division 1 leadership with an emphatic eight-wicket win over Ventnor at Steephill, writes Mike Vimpany.
Dan made 65 not out and sibling Callum 51, their 112-run stand sweeping Basingstoke past Ventnor's 220 with 21 balls to spare.
The win stretches Basingstoke's lead at the top to 22 points over Andover, who pulled off a remarkable win of their own, chasing down a 280-run target at Sarisbury Athletic.
Matt Donaldson's new ball spell had Ventnor wobbling at 44-3 - the seamer finished with figures of 4-50 - before left-arm spinner Ali Brown (3-24) reduced the islanders to 76-6 (Henry Bartlett 30).
Martin Blackman (80) and Rob Snell (62) rallied with a seventh-wicket stand, which took Ventnor on to 220 all out.
Basingstoke prospered through openers Matt Deadman (40) and Dubs Wood (46), who provided an ideal platform for the Coombs brothers.
