A DEVELOPER has revealed it is planning to submit a new application for land at Oakdown Farm near Dummer.

As previously reported, Newlands Developments submitted a revised planning application to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council (BDBC) for a new distribution hub on the land, which included plans to build a Lidl warehouse.

Members of the borough council's development control committee refused Newlands’ previous application - understood to be earmarked for Amazon.

Members of the same committee refused Newlands’ revised application.

The developer then filed an appeal against the decision but this was also thrown out by an inspector in December last year following a four-day appeal hearing.

Now seven months on the Gazette has been made aware that the developer is to try for a further planning application.

A spokesperson from Newlands said: "Newlands Property acknowledges the feedback previously received from the community, planning committee and planning inspector in relation to the previous application for industrial and logistics proposals at Oakdown Farm. Based on this feedback, we are evolving our proposals so that they are materially different to those which were presented previously.

"We have started engagement with Basingstoke and Deane Council planning officers. It is common practice to initially engage with the council to kick off the pre-application process, and we will be undertaking extensive stakeholder and community engagement ahead of the submission of any planning application.”

It has not been made clear what the proposals will be.

The Clean Air Green Environment (CAGE) group was set up to oppose the Basingstoke Gateway proposals for the new distribution hub shortly after they were first revealed.

They campaigned to stop the destruction of 67 oak and three mature beech trees that currently line the road into the village of Dummer. The trees would have been destroyed if the original proposed Amazon warehouse was built.

The Gazette has been in contact with the group.

A spokesperson confirmed that "Cage will carefully consider the plans once they are published".

BDBC was contacted for a comment but they did not want to add anything at this time.
